Avoid Common Mistakes in Bathroom Remodels
Poor Planning: Are you in need of a half bath or a full bath? Need to make your half
bath into a full bath? What is the main purpose for the bathroom? Are you going to plan for
future accessibility and create an adaptable bathroom?
Over-spending: Will your bathroom add to your home equity or take away from it?
Available Space: Is there enough space for what you are planning to build? There are options,
such as knocking out a wall for floor expansion or replace the vanity with a pedestal sink to create more space.
Storage: Well-planned bathrooms have convenient storage- cabinets, shelves, drawers,
and cubbies that are located near the specified task areas.
Lighting: Whether putting on make-up or shaving, washing your hands or brushing
your teeth, task areas should be well lit. Before remodeling, think about where the task
areas will be located.
Tub vs Shower or both: Space allowance plays a major factor in deciding whether the
bathroom can have a tub/shower or both. Look over the possible layouts of the
bathroom and from there decide if the bathroom needs to be expanded or not.
Universal/CAP: Design a Universal (meeting the needs for all ages, abilities, and
circumstances for today and into the future) and Certified for Aging in Place (CAPS)
(integrating "Adaptable, Accessible, and/or Universal" design while introducing energy efficient
products and sustainable systems into your remodel project. "Designing with your Future in
Mind".
Don't overlook the small details, have Tomco Company Inc. design and build
a "Universal" and/or a "Certified Aging in Place" bathroom for you today!
Bathroom Remodel Questions and Answers:
Q: What is a time frame one could expect for a bathroom remodel?
A: Shortest time frame for the build process for a spa-like bathroom ranges anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks, depending on what your project calls for. Some bath remodels calls for more demolition time, others for changes in design, and some for ordered materials. The design process and inspections will usually add on another week or so, depending on the city's inspectors.
Q: How does one prepare for a bath remodel?
A: You can start by looking around in magazines, catalogs, and stores. You want to be able to picture exactly what style you are trying to obtain before the contractor comes in. That way your design process may proceed more swiftly. As for pre-construction and demolition period, you are going to want to make sure all your personal belongings are removed and secured. Make sure the area leading to your bathroom is clear for the contractor's traffic zones (such as pictures and knick-knacks etc.)
Q: Do I need the design before I meet with my contractor?
A: No, but it does help when you have a picture of what you want or what features you might want to integrate to ensure the most out of the experience. Tomco Company will design with you your project. We also have experienced interior designers that will help you with your selections throughout the remodeling process.
Q: How much dust can we expect around the house?
A: It is a goal of Tomco Company to isolate the workspace as much as possible. We do this by controlling the thermostat for the furnace and air conditioner. We also cover the area in the high traffic zones leading to the workspace. We, however, do not have control of is pet traffic and homeowner traffic, in and out of workspaces after our work hours. In short, Tomco Company attempts to reduce the amount of dust within your home throughout the project.
