Tomco floor wins 2016 Regional CotY
A dramatic, patterned wood plank and porcelain tile floor today earned Tomco Company 2016 Regional Contractor of the Year (CotYTM) honors from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).
Tomco won the North Central (Region 3) CotY in the Residential Interior Element over $30,000 category. Region 3 includes Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dekota and Wisconsin. Tomco now will compete against contractors from two other regions for the National CotY Award to be announced at the NARI Evening of Excellence in Austin, TX, on April 8.
This is the third consecutive year that Tomco Company has received Contractor of the Year honors from the national remodeling group and the first time it earned regional recognition for its design and craftsmanship. Tomco won in 2014 for the best Universal Design project. The floor won the top NARI MN CotY for best residential interior element last November. Tomco also took second place for a basement it remodeled in Anoka.
When evaluating projects, CotY Award judges consider degree of difficulty, aesthetic and functional enhancements, problem solving, innovation and craftsmanship. NARI Minnesota members received 16 of the 158 nationwide CotY awards NARI announced today.
The Blaine project was particularly challenging because the original tile floor had cracked. Tomco also had to accommodate the open floor plan’s irregular shapes, obtrusive columns and curved walls. Tomco stiffened the subfloor and incorporated a special decoupling membrane and selective use of color-matched caulk to prevent future cracking.
NARI is the premier national organization for remodeling professionals. Members must abide by a strict code of ethics and may earn professional certifications based on experience, courses and written exams. Tomco Company owner Tom Schiebout is a NARI Certified Remodeler (CR) and Certified Kitchen & Bath Remodeler (CKBR). He also holds Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) credentials from the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB).
